Further and Higher Education establishments operate very differently to schools, yet the acoustic conditions still have a profound effect on teaching and learning. In the FE and HE sectors there is an opportunity to draw on the latest research to provide optimal conditions which go beyond minimum compliance. FE and HE facilities extend beyond teaching and learning accommodation, including spaces such as laboratories, creative arts facilities, professional sports facilities, mock professional facilities, etc.

Changing trends from cellular classrooms to flexible, open space planning are particularly challenging acoustically. More recently the need to remodel or refurbish existing buildings (which may often be historic or listed) has prompted the need for new acoustic standards and innovative design solutions.
