RBA Acoustics

PureGym, Geneva

Project Overview

RBA Acoustics undertook a detailed acoustic feasibility study for a new PureGym site within an existing mixed-use building along Avenue de Bouchet in Geneva, Switzerland. The Gym is located at ground floor level within the building and is adjacent to two acoustically sensitive spaces, namely a healthcare facility, also located at ground floor level, and a journalism and media company located within the offices directly above the Gym, with residential apartments also located on the upper stories.

In order to understand the levels of acoustic impact that Gym activities were likely to create within the adjacent sensitive spaces, detailed acoustic feasibility testing was undertaken within the unit. The tests involved measurements of radiated noise and vibration impacts on the adjacent spaces from dropping of weights, and determining the nature and extent of acoustic flooring treatments required to mitigate impacts from the adjoining uses.

Similar tests were also undertaken on the internal and external building fabric elements to determine suitable acoustic mitigation measures necessary to control noise transfer and breakout from the Gym

Based on the results of the detailed in-situ testing, a detailed report was provided to PureGym to highlight the acoustic risks of the site and to provide detailed mitigation measures to maintain the acoustic amenity of the adjacent sensitive uses.
