Noise at Work

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations were introduced in order to protect individuals from sustaining possible hearing damage and also to act as a guide to employers as to what exactly is required of them, to protect their employees.

Any industry that requires its employees to work in noisy environments is affected by the Noise at Work Regulations.  Typically those sectors whereby machinery is commonly used throughout the working day are the most at risk, including manufacturing and construction.

In April 2008 the Regulations were amended to include the music and entertainment sectors.  Music and entertainment sectors are defined as workplaces where live or recorded music is played such as in a restaurant, bar, public house or night-club.

RBA Acoustics are able to conduct noise at work assessments for compliance with the regulations.  Expert advice on noise control and assistance with the preparation of action plans to control noise exposure can be provided; typically this will include individual noise exposure or overall workplace assessments.   Training and education of employees can be undertaken in order to ensure effectiveness of any noise management strategy.
