Building Services Noise

The control of building services noise requires a detailed understanding of the systems themselves.  The effects of noise and vibration must be considered along the building services chain from sources including terminal cooling devices, fan noise, duct breakout, vibration caused by moving parts and through plantroom structures.

We have been involved in planning applications for new building services installations throughout the UK and have gained valuable experience as to exactly what information Local Authorities require in a planning submission. Providing exact information required by the Local Authority saves time and unnecessary problems. Getting it right first time through our close working relationship with many Local Authorities can help facilitate and speed up the planning process.

In addition to atmospheric noise emissions, we can assist in the assessment and control of internal noise levels from building services operation.  This is of particular importance in developments such as offices, hotels and hospitals where internal noise conditions are often controlled by the operators and subject to their own performance standards, BREEAM credits, or technical guidance documents such as HTM-08-01.  RBA can undertake calculations and also measurements of roomside noise levels to demonstrate compliance with project criteria.

We can also provide anti-vibration specifications for plant items to prevent structure-borne noise from such sources.
