The Safer Neighbourhoods scheme was introduced as a way of improving the link between the police and local communities. The offices are located in small retail type units within each community and are typically headed by a Sergeant, supported by Constables and Police Community Support Officers.
Having worked together previously on many successful projects, Mansell appointed RBA to advise on the control of noise from proposed building services systems which were to be installed at each of the new Safer Neighbourhoods offices in order to satisfy planning conditions imposed by the Local Authorities.
Each office required a survey to establish the existing environmental noise levels at the nearby noise-sensitive properties. Working closely with the client's chosen suppliers, predictions of noise levels from the proposed plant were then made and advice provided regarding the appropriate mitigation in order to achieve the Local Authorities proposals.
To date, RBA Acoustics have successfully completed noise impact assessments for more than 50 Safer Neighbourhoods offices. Due to our involvement on these schemes we have established a database of the varying requirements of the boroughs across the capital and gained useful contacts at the Local Authorities.
