Ulster Hospital is undergoing a complete transformation that will provide an additional 490 beds.

An Acute Assessment Unit, Imaging Department, Emergency Department, Acute Treatment Centre, Day Surgery, Outpatients and Children’s Units are all proposed as part of the current development phase alone.   The Ward Block will contain almost 300 rooms at upper floor levels, with clinical care at lower levels.

Having worked very successfully with RBA Acoustics on other healthcare projects, Avanti Architects approached RBA for advice at an early stage.  Our brief was to provide full acoustic design in line with HTM 08-01, including the control of external noise, advice on the sound insulation of internal partitioning and commissioning testing on completion.

The project is currently at design stage.  So far, surveys have been undertaken to establish the existing environmental noise levels.  Detailed modelling of individual road traffic movements within the site and delivery areas in particular, has also been carried out to ensure that satisfactory internal noise levels will be achieved.
