Gransha Hospital is a medical complex located in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. As part of the hospital's development, a requirement was identified at the hospital for the provision of secure wards where patients, for whom treatment within the community is not appropriate, could be cared for.
The project involved the creation of inpatient accomodation providing up to 30 beds as well as private intensive care bedrooms and day care facilities.
In collaboration with Kennedy FitzGerald and Associates, Avanti Architects won the contract to design the facility and appointed RBA Acoustics to provide acoustic input to the project. The requirements of such a facility poses many challenges acoustically, but working closely with Avanti we were able to incorporate the necessary acoustic standards without compromising the medical care in an environment which is sensitive to patients needs.
