  • Completion Date:2011

Barrhead Health and Social Care Centre is amongst a new generation of NHS services that acts as a hub for all local health and social care services, serving a community of 25,000 residents. Comprising of three GP and two dental practices the centre is also home to physiotherapy, podiatry, psychiatric services as well as health visitor and district nursing teams.

RBA Acoustics were commissioned by Avanti Architects to take the scheme from planning stage through to completion.  As well as requiring advice on the acoustic performance of the external glazing to control noise break-in, the building’s large atrium is overlooked by many consultation rooms which benefit from large windows bringing natural light to all areas.  Patient confidentiality is obviously critical in such areas and careful consideration was required to ensure the internal glazing and partitioning were appropriate.

RBA undertook detailed modelling of the large public areas in order to investigate architectural options and, from this, were able to provide advice on suitable acoustic surface treatments and internal layouts so the various GP and dental practices could operate without disturbance.  We were also responsible for specifying noise mitigation measures for the control of building services plant noise.

Opened to the public in Spring 2011, the project is viewed as a fundemental part of the town's regeneration.
