Healthcare

Acoustic design is essential to the quality of healthcare buildings as noise can have adverse effects on physiological conditions such as heart rate, blood pressure and respiration rates.  Good acoustic conditions can improve patient privacy and ensure good resting conditions which are key to recovery.  At RBA we also recognize the importance of acoustics in terms of staff comfort and the links to efficiency and providing the best care possible.

Case Studies

Ulster Hospital
(2013)

Ulster Hospital is undergoing a complete transformation, with an additional 490 beds to be provided. Our brief is to provide full acoustic design in line with HTM 08-01, including the control of external noise, advice on the sound insulation of internal partitioning and commissioning testing on completion.

Gransha Hospital - Mental Health Crisis Unit
(On-going)

As part of hospital's development, a requirement was identified for a complex of secure accomodation where patients, for whom treatment in the community is not appropriate, could be cared for.  RBA Acoustics were appointed to incorporate the necessary acoustic standards without compromising the medical care in an environment which is sensitive to patients needs.

Barrhead Health and Social Care Centre
(2011)

Commissioned by the architects, RBA were part of the project team for the Barrhead Health and Social Care Centre from planning stage through to completion. As well as advising on the acoustic performance of the external glazing to control noise break-in, careful consideration was also required to ensure that the internal glazing and partitioning was appropriate to provide privacy.

BMI Weymouth Hospital
(2010)

The BMI Weymouth Hospital is a purpose built luxury hospital on Weymouth Street in the prestigious Harley Street area of London.  Designed by EPR Architects the new BMI Weymouth Hospital has styled interiors comparable to a boutique hotel. RBA Acoustics were initially appointed to undertake environmental noise monitoring which led to us providing ad hoc consultancy advice to the architects, building services engineers and contractors during both the design and construction phase.
