At RBA Acoustics we understand the importance for good acoustic conditions within schools and colleges. As well as internal and external sound transfer, the room acoustics of classrooms and other occupied spaces are paramount in terms of speech intelligibility and making sure students are able to clearly understand the teacher.
With an aim to deliver education to meet the shifting demands of 21st century learners Ravensbourne, a university sector college innovating in digital media and design, opened its new building to students in Autumn 2010. Appointed by Foreign Office Architects, RBA Acoustics provided input on all items related to acoustics, noise and vibration.
West Thames College serves over 6500 students from a diverse cultural background. The project, a phased redevelopment to replace the outdated 1960's buildings, provided the college and it's students new teaching and resource facilities. Appointed as acoustic consultant, RBA advised on both traditional teaching spaces and some areas with particular acoustic challenges such as a theatre, recording studios and motor vehicle workshops.
Surrey Square School's subterranean dining room not only provides the school with a new internal environment, but also an exciting addition to the school playground - an accessible green domed roof. RBA were appointed to assist the architect in designing internal finishes to ensure reverberation was controlled and a pleasant dining experience was achieved.
